Album Description

Ocean State is the brainchild of trombonist & pianist, Brian Drye and drummer & producer Eric Hastings. Ocean State 2, recorded in Providence, Rhode Island is a departure from their first release which featured music born in the studio. For their second release, Drye pulls from a cauldron of leftover sketches, grooves and structures made whole in the studio with Hastings's drumming and studio prowess. Joined here again by their Nashville compatriot, Matt Glassmeyer (AKA Meadownoise) lends bass, percussion and additional horns to the album as well as a special guest appearance by Ottawa native, Petr Cancura.

This collection of songs pays homage to Rocky Point, the first song on the record and the place where Drye spent many summers at the now defunct amusement park of his youth - and where these days Hastings walks his dog. The remaining structure of this once vibrant oceanside carnival is pictured on the cover.
