The Instrumentation: Mark Kramer performs the entire arrangement, blending acoustic piano, upright and sampled bass, and acoustic drums with an array of exotic sampled instruments. Introducing the short lived "Breakout League" to be re-released Because this collection marks such a distinct departure from his previous work—including the Mark Kramer Trio— Mark released it in August 2025 under the moniker, Mark Kramer and The Breakout League, to learn how a focus group might react. Beyond signaling a fresh artistic direction, this alias also ensured clear accurate attribution on streaming platforms, firmly distinguishing this deeply personal project from other, unrelated artists who share the "Kramer" name.

The Theme: Touching the Unseen We rarely make conscious contact with the unseen dimensions that animate us, yet the potential is always there. While jazz ensembles often find this connection through deep, tensionless listening, capturing that same magic as a solitary multi-instrumentalist requires a profound surrender.

The Process: The Ensemble of One These tracks begin as pure piano improvisations—an exercise in getting out of the way, suspending judgment, and listening intimately to the vibrations so that motifs, meters, and harmonies can simply appear. By sustaining this exact state of "here and now" presence while overdubbing the bass and drums, the solitary recording process transforms into a highly responsive, breathing ensemble performance.

Featured Track: Beyond Reality This interactivity is vividly captured in the track Beyond Reality. The piece is anchored by a repeating bass line—the "ground"—that moves both forward and in retrograde. It acts as a metaphor for breathing: the unconscious, habituated cycles that sustain our lives. Above this steady pulse, musical "miracles" and unexpected shocks break through. Following a brief modern swing section, the original ground re-emerges at a heightened tempo. Shifting from the background to become the central figure, it honors the indispensable, often undervalued forces of our existence.

The Visual Experience Each of the 13 tracks is paired with a full-length, bespoke abstract film. Far beyond standard visualizers, these are complex, multi-track video composites designed to overwhelm ordinary sensory perception. By translating the music's audio and MIDI data into up to five distinct, interwoven visual streams, the imagery physically "dances" to the shifting moods of the composition.
