Album Description

Another Perspective is Blake’s personal take on the current state of society, brought on by the abrupt halt to the music industry due to COVID-19. The album consists of 6 compositions (including 1 from the band member, Sean Sanby) with 5 musical interludes, some of which contain narration by Blake. “Wish”, the opening of the album, sets the mood. It is a fantasy of what the world might be like if we were to have freedom. “Circumstances” is the busyness of city life. Blake explores the blending of his classical upbringing with his love for jazz and the Capetonian sounds of “ghoema” with his “Blessed Are Those” - a 3 part suite. The mood changes abruptly with “Cry”. As the title suggests, it is an outcry to the atrocities in this world, namely: gender based violence, racism, inequality of men and women and the extremes between the rich and poor. Finally Hellaby ends with “Forward”, an optimistic approach to life. The album was recorded as a “visual album”, the visual aspect was available to stream at the end of 2020 and will be slowly made available to the public over the next year. Another Perspective features Zeke le Grange on tenor saxophone, Sean Sanby on electric and double bass and Dane Paris on drums. The album was recorded live at Sound and Motion Studios in Cape Town on the 15th of October, 2020.
