Album Description
Altın Hızma is a modern pop/jazz interpretation of a widely known traditional Iraqi-Turkish love song. The track marks the first single recorded by the Batuhan Aydın Folk Quartet following Homewards, the group’s debut album with Jülide Özçelik, released in April 2026. Founded earlier that year by Batuhan Aydın — one of the leading figures in modern kaval performance worldwide — the quartet reinvents traditional song through a contemporary musical language.
Altın Hızma combines modern pop/jazz and acoustic world fusion to create a unique and intriguing listening experience. In this recording, Batuhan Aydın’s musical universe meets that of Jülide Özçelik, one of Türkiye’s most distinctive female jazz vocalists. Contemporary improvisation and jazz meet a haunting, genre-transcending vocal performance, balancing contemporary expressivity with the age-old cultural memory embedded in traditional song.
The Batuhan Aydın Folk Quartet was founded to further explore the improvisational and expressive possibilities of the kaval, a traditional wind instrument rooted in the musical cultures of Anatolia and the Balkans. The quartet consists of Batuhan Aydın on kaval, Nikolaus Grill on piano, Kağan Yıldız on double bass, and Ediz Hafızoğlu on drums.
Altın Hızma was mixed in Istanbul by Berk Kula, one of Türkiye’s foremost sound engineers. Mastering was carried out at CS Mastering Studios in Vienna by Austrian mastering engineer Christoph Stickel, known for his work with artists including Chick Corea, Pat Metheny, and Keith Jarrett.
