Album Description
A Dizziness from the unsaid, is the debut album by South African trumpet player and composer James McClure. This is a bold and introspective work that invites deep listening. It is rooted in emotion, free improvisation and progressive thought with traces of heritage. The album is held together by a recurring lullaby written in response to violence and global unrest. It is a call for change, reflection and healing that feels ever more relevant and increasingly urgent. An emotionally charged introduction to a powerful new voice in contemporary music.
Recorded live at Wisseloord Studios in the Netherlands, the album features musicians Pat Cleaver (bass), Nikos Thessalonikefs (drums), and Adrián Moncada Espinosa (piano).
The compositions and ensemble sound reflect his inner world and lifelong pursuit of honest expression. The music moves between intensity and release. It is an invitation to breathe, to feel, and to listen.

Based in Amsterdam since 2015, James has become part of the city’s vibrant experimental music community, recognised for his mesmerising sound, patience and sensibility. Although this marks his debut release as a bandleader, the album reflects years of collaboration, performance, research and exploration. It is a moving introduction to his world.

The moment of birthing your own musical space is a special one; you expose something about yourself for all to see. It can be an act of generosity and laying bare a bit of your soul. We are elated to support our dear friend and fellow musician James McClure (featured trumpeter in Mestizx), who does so on A dizziness from the unsaid. We see the importance of his ideas, and we are moved by his deep care for contemplation in sound. James not only enriches the Amsterdam music community, he is able to expand you to celebratory grass roots South African resistance songs, to then make you gasp while covering you with a blanket of deep-sea-water like sinuosity. It is as dizzying as it is revelatory. That indeed, this is it. We get this one chance to live in this body, in this presence, in this moment. It is through his music that we get the chance to detach from the banalities of distraction, take a deep breath, you are in!
