Album Description

-ish is a collaborative song cycle that weaves together elements of chamber music, jazz and global folk traditions through the two distinctive compositional and improvisational voices of pianist Yotam Ishay and clarinetist Sam Sadigursky. The two first met while performing at Winter JazzFest in New York City in early 2024, and soon began gathering regularly to exchange tunes, ideas, and conspicuous amounts of homemade hummus. Eschewing conventional forms and instrumental roles, they quickly developed a creative trust that allowed each composition to serve as an open canvas for discovery and exploration.

Recorded in a single day at Renaissance Studios in New York City in the summer of 2025, -ish offers an intimate and understated portrait of contemporary duo playing, traversing a broad emotional and musical landscape with commitment to spontaneity and depth.

A native of Afula, Israel, Ishay has collaborated with Zakir Hussain, Michael League, Jamey Haddad, and Adam Bałdych. His composition Reminiscing has more than one million streams since its release in 2020. Sadigursky is a member of the Philip Glass Ensemble and has performed and recorded with Brad Mehldau, Bruce Hornsby, David Byrne, and Darcy James Argue. He is also the co-creator of The Solomon Diaries, a critically acclaimed and ongoing album series released on Adhyaropa Records.
