Arlene Murray

Born: March 25, 1955

Ms. Murray began singing at age 5. She grew up in a family where music was part of their everyday life. She listened to her parents and uncles sang to the tunes of Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole. In high school, she was the vocalist of her school band. They played mostly at school events and functions. Around that time, she was also learning how to play the guitar. Arlene Murray went to the Conservatory of Music at University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines where she majored in Voice. During that time, she was also a vocalist in a seven-piece band called the Majestics where they played in nightclubs in Manila. She was part of the first batch of international singers to perform in Fukuoka City, Japan

Mr Switzer was the director of the Borel Middle School Jazz Band from 2001 until 2012. Rebecca is originally from Dallas, Texas and studied music from a young age. As a young singer, she became expert at harmonies singing with her musical mother and in choirs. Her first instrument was piano where she learned the basics. From there she studied classical clarinet for years up through high school onto University of North Texas on a clarinet scholarship. She was also performing in bands singing and doing musical theatre. Moving to SF, she created many groups including the "Spoolie Sisters" who toured and ran in a 2 year run of "Nashional Anthem" an original musical at the 1177 Club atop Nob Hill winning a SF Cabaret Gold Award in the show! She is a mom and sings with her husband Frank, in a band JetBlacq and continues to perform in musical theatre and film

Mylos “Boogie” Sonka, the Retrobates trail boss, plays both steel and standard guitars, as well as the fiddle and tiple. He sings all vocal parts, though seldom at once. He has been an ace fancy yodeler since the tragic barbed-wire high jump accident. His main interest is western swing music, though back in the day he performed with bluegrass legend Bill Monroe, toured up and down the West Coast with The Frank Wakefield Band, and co- founded High Country. He played with the jump vocal swing group On the Air over the years, and these days he’s also chopping Freddie Green-style rhythm guitar with the 17-piece Ray Simpson Big Band

Gaucho

Gaucho is a masterful Bay Area band that combines the influence of gypsy jazz of 1930’s Europe with the rhythmic drive and collective improvisation of New Orleans swing music, gutbucket blues and elements of ragtime. Their sound, a uniquely American concoction, blends instrumental acuity and lighthearted humor that keep their audience coming back for more. As founder, guitarist, and main composer Dave Ricketts says, the band is “in love with the music of Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller and Jimmie Rodgers, as well as the stories, the life styles and the foot steps of hundreds of other great jazz, blues, country and rock musicians that created the sound of American Music from roughly 1900-1950’s”
