Tobias M. Hoffmann

Tobias Hoffmann was born in Göppingen (Germany) in 1988 and discovered his passion for music and the saxophone during his high school years. 
From 2008 until 2010 he studied at the University for Music, Drama and Media in Hanover and from 2010 at the Prins Claus Conservatorium Groningen 
(The Netherlands), where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in June 2013. From 2013 until 2015 he studied Jazz Saxophone at the Musik und 
Kunst Universität Wien (Austria) and graduated with a Master of Arts (MA) with distinction. At the same time he studied Jazz Composition and 
Arrangement and graduated with distinction in 2018.

Miho Hazama

Born: November 13, 1986

Grammy-nominated composer, Miho Hazama is one of the most promising and talented composers/arrangers of her generation. Lauded in Downbeat as one of “25 for the Future”, Miho developed her signature jazz chamber orchestra “munit”. Now having three full length releases on Universal Music Japan/ Sunnyside Records, Miho has written for and expertly showcased the abilities of guest artists such as Joshua Redman, Lionel Loueke, Stefon Harris, and Gil Goldstein, to name a few. Her debut album received the Jazz JAPAN rising star award, and she has been featured in such influential publications as Downbeat, The New York Times, NPR, JazzTimes among others

Peter Knudsen

Born: March 22, 1980

Peter Knudsen started playing the piano and also began writing his own music at the age of 10, and discovered jazz and 20th century music as a teenager. Having worked for some years with adapting the music of Debussy and Ravel for jazz trio, Peter and his trio recorded Impressions- a tribute to Debussy and Ravel in 2008, released on Found You Recordings. During 2009-2010, the trio did two summer tours in France. The trio has also performed at Swedish jazz clubs, festivals and concert halls.

In 2010, he launched the project Peterson-Berger revisited, a quartet featuring Joakim Milder on Saxophone performing new arrangements of Swedish composer Wilhelm Peterson-Berger's music. In 2011, the group toured with the material and also recorded an album in the composer's home Sommarhagen. During the same year, Peter also formed the octet Peter Knudsen Eight and recorded the album Sagas of the Present featuring his own compositions. The album was released on the Italian label CAM Jazz and reviewed favorably by Down Beat, All About Jazz alongside European magazines. In 2016, Knudsen was commissioned to write new big band compositions for the acclaimed Stockholm Jazz Orchestra, resulting in the folklore-inspired suite Nature Spirits, also released as an album with the same name by Do Music Records in 2019. During 2015-2016, Knudsen also toured in Brazil on two occasions with a Brazilian-Swedish trio featuring drummer Kiko Freitas, as a part of a teacher exchange. Around the same time he started working with the group Derupeto, an international quartet with members from Sweden, Brazil and Mozambique. The group released their debut album Derupeto in 2020.

Antero Priha

Born: October 4, 1965

Trumpetist Antero Priha is a versatile and intuitive trumpet player and composer. He has played, composed and arranged music from many different genres and played and recorded with a great number of domestic and foreign top artists. He is a band musician and composer who leads he ´s own groups and projects. Antero has collaborated in various projects with: Ray Charles, Carla Bley, Freddie Hubbard, Maria Schneider, Joe Henderson & Gil Evans. Finnish stars J. Karjalainen, Ismo Alanko, Judge Bean, Pekka Pohjola, Jukka Linkola, Sakari Kukko, Upi Sorvali, Edward Wesala, Hasse Walli and Otto Donner have also been his musical co-operation partners. Priha has also created a career as a studio musician on television and radio, including Espoo Big Band and Umo Jazz orchestra as a soloist and musician. Joseph Daley

JOSEPH DALEY Musician/Composer/Educator specializing in new/contemporary music, jazz, and improvisation Studied at the Manhattan School of Music attaining a master’s degree in music education Received fellowships in music composition from the National Endowment, MacDowell Colony, Music Omi and Geraldine R Dodge Foundation He is a retired public school music educator completing 30 years of service. Karlton E Hester

Born: 1949

Karlton E. Hester, Ph.D. (composer/flutist/saxophonist), began his career as a composer and recording artist in Los Angeles where he worked as a studio musician and music educator. He received his Ph.D. in composition from the City University of New York Graduate Center and is currently Director of "Jazz" Studies at the University of California in Santa Cruz. As performer on both flute and saxophone, he is music director of the Fillmore Jazz Preservation Big Band and Hesterian Musicism. Hester is currently music director of Hesterian Musicism, founding director of the Fillmore Jazz Preservation Big Band in San Francisco and served as the Herbert Gussman Director of Jazz Studies at Cornell University from 1991-2001

César Cardoso

Born: November 10, 1982

Born in 1982, in Leiria, soon dedicated his time to studying music, with only 7 years old.From 2004 to 2008 he studied at Hot Clube de Portugal’s Jazz School, where he had lessons with Jorge Reis and Pedro Moreira and started to distinguish himself as a jazz musician. In 2008 he enrolled at Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, where he continued to work with Jorge Reis e Pedro Moreira, having completed the Jazz Bachelor Degree in saxophone performance.César is a member of the dixieland group Desbundixie, with whom he recorded “Kick’n Blow” (in 2007) e “Up 2 Nine” (in 2009), this last one with Maria João in vocals and Filipe Melo at the piano as special guests.He is the mentor and artistic director of Orquestra Jazz de Leiria, a big band which gathers Leiria’s jazz community and has given a set of concerts with Portuguese artists as special guests, such as Vânia Fernandes, David Fonseca, Maria João, Herman José, Luísa Sobral, Áurea, Tiago Bettencourt, Pedro Abrunhosa, Ana Bacalhau, Camané, Sara Tavares, António Zambujo, Jorge Palma and Simone de Oliveira.In 2010, César recorded his first debut CD, “Half Step”, with the musicians Bruno Santos, Filipe Melo, Demian Cabaud and Bruno Pedroso, his quintet at that time. Migiwa Miyajima

Born: June 17, 1974

Hailing from Japan, composer, producer, pianist, and bandleader of the 17-piece Miggy Augmented Orchestra, Migiwa “Miggy” Miyajima creates large-scale works manifesting her distinct life experiences. Birdland Jazz Club says, “Miyajima’s music reflects her journey as a musician and humanitarian.” Formerly editor-in-chief of a magazine in Japan, Miyajima trusted the power of music and became a full-time musician at the age of 30. Frank Denyer

Born: April 12, 1943

Frank Denyer is an English composer whose brilliantly coloured and imaginatively rich compositions fall between several and into none of the accepted categories of contemporary music. Born in London in 1943, he was a chorister at Canterbury Cathedral by the age of nine, the director of the experimental music ensemble Mouth of Hermes in London at the age of twenty-five, and a Doctoral student in ethnomusicology at Wesleyan University, Connecticut at the age of thirty. He has lived and worked in east Africa and India. Denyer’s music is distinguished by a keen sensitivity to sound. Each of his works is written for a unique combination of instruments, more often than not a combination that no composer has dreamed of before

Merlin Breij
