Portland Jazz Orchestra
Since 2005, the 17 members of Portland Jazz Orchestra have come together year-round to present top-caliber orchestral jazz in the unique setting of the concert hall. Portland's first ensemble of this kind, PJO offers diverse, high-quality programs, from the most standard big band charts, to unique arrangements, to brand new works from today's premier jazz composers. In 2007 Portland Jazz Orchestra was named the first-ever Resident Ensemble of the celebrated Portland Jazz Festival. The partnership between the two organizations creates community outreach opportunities throughout the festival, and enables PJO to perform on a national stage each February. Additional PJO outreach events include master classes and workshops in the Portland Public Schools, plus performing annually at benefit events for public school jazz programs

Quartet San Francisco
Quartet San Francisco's 2006 release Latigo, which gave passionate expression to the group's devotion to tango, was honored last December with two Grammy nominations in the Classical Crossover field, including "Best Album." Their audacious new ViolinJazz Recordings CD Whirled Chamber Music ups the ante, presenting what violinist Jeremy Cohen calls "crossover music in its purest form." Due for release September 25, the new disc draws from a wide variety of indigenous American forms—jazz, funk, rock, tango—that are imaginatively crafted by Cohen for string quartet

The Antfarm Quartet
TIM LEKAN (bass) began his musical journey touring the United States playing electric bass in R&B bands. His love of jazz and the work of masters such as Charlie Haden, Paul Chambers, Red Mitchell and Ray Brown eventually led him to the acoustic bass. He has studied with New York bassists, Scott Lee, Michael Moore and Dennis Irwin, and has studied composition with pianist/composer Ron Thomas. A native of Cleveland, Tim lived and worked in New Jersey from 1986-1998, playing with numerous groups, including The George Mesterhazy Trio and Oscar Brown Jr. In the fall of 1997 Tim released his debut CD "P.M

Rebecca Shrimpton and Eric Hofbauer
The Rebecca Shrimpton/Eric Hofbauer duo unites voice and guitar in an intimate partnership that both celebrates and defies the traditional roles of its instruments.
Inspired by the full spectrum of American music, this pairing of two noted Boston-based musicians brings freshness to jazz standards and stretches out to explore such diverse musical sources as Ray Charles, Duke Ellington, Ned Rorem and various practitioners from the folk tradition.
They have played venues in New York City and Boston, and earned accolades for their 2005 debut recording, Madman's Moon (Creative Nation Music), which also featured saxophonist Allan Chase and bassist Scott Barnum.

The Blueprint Project
Saxophonist Jared Sims, guitarist Eric Hofbauer and pianist Tyson Rogers, now in their early 30's, first met at Boston's New England Conservatory in 1997 and have since each worked with some of the most respected names in creative improvised music.
Together as The Blueprint Project, they augment their original compositions and highly developed interaction with older, more established rhythm section players (thus far the list includes Han Bennink, Cecil McBee and Matt Wilson) to create a consciously eclectic and intergenerational ensemble that is constantly reinventing itself.
Critics have noted the group's "witty, contemporary sounding improvisation" (James Hale, DownBeat) and "intelligent, incisively crafted compositions" (Andy Hamilton, Jazz Review ), and called its music "serious fun" (Julian Cowley, The Wire), "full of striking rhythms and harmonic ideas" (Ted Kane, JazzReview.com) and "nothing short of glorious...music that is a working definition of just how uplifting human creativity can be" (Nic Jones, AllAboutJazz.com).

The Hoppin' John Orchestra
Established in 1996 as the Black Eyed Peas Brass Band, the current Hoppin' John Orchestra has seen our name, our music and our musicians evolve and change in many ways over the years. For the uninitiated, Hoppin' John is a tasty, tasty dish, one of whose main ingredients is black-eyed peas. One look at a current radio chart and one can see why the change occurred. Still and all, we find it a fitting moniker for our efforts. Five of the original eight members remain: Matt, Tony, Mike, Lou, and Darren. Our very first singer, Wayne Harvey now performs in the Media area as a solo singer songwriter and with area bands

Upper Left Trio
It would be too easy to pigeonhole the Upper Left Trio as a Bad Plus wannabe. Doing so would certainly be inaccurate, as the Upper Left Trio exists at approximately the midpoint between the Oscar Peterson Trio and Medeski, Martin, and Wood. The band’s debut recording, Cycling, consists of ten well-crafted original piano trio compositions that fall conservatively well short of the Bad Plus, producing a record that will not boast the band being the loudest jazz piano trio. The Upper Left Trio can boast being one of the more articulate and thoughtful new trios to emerge in the mainstream in the 21st century. Fully integrated, the trio acts a unit as opposed to a collection of three individuals
