Alvin Fielder

Born:

To make an impact on the world, a person isn't required to be famous or rich. This is exactly the case with jazz drummer Alvin Fielder. "Al," as he is called by many of his friends, has put all his efforts and skills into bringing jazz music to the 21st century. Yet many people of the world don't recognize him. Fame and fortune is not what Fielder desires. His love goes to the community, friends, and the world; not for money, not to be a star, but to be someone that they can look up to. So after thirty years of hard work, respect for Mr. Fielder is well past due. Alvin Fielder was born in Meridian, Mississippi, on November 23, 1935

Yells at Eels: In Quiet Waters

Read "In Quiet Waters" reviewed by Karl Ackermann

It would seem that trumpeter Dennis González could easily find a place among the better-known artists in jazz were it not for a deep commitment to making generally undefinable music and priorities that include putting his academic and literary responsibilities out front. From the time of his first release as a leader, Air Light (Sleep Sailor) ...

01. Jason Roebke -High/Red/Center (Delmark -2014). Trovare un buon equilibrio tra forma e libertà in ensemble di medio/grandi dimensioni è veramente difficile. Jason c'è riuscito molto bene in questo disco con alcuni dei miei musicisti preferiti di Chicago. 02. Alvin Fielder/Dave Dove/Jason Jackson/Damon Smith -From-to-From (Balance Point Acoustics -2013). Kidd Jordan / Alvin Fielder /Peter Kowald: Trio and Duo in New Orleans

Read "Trio and Duo in New Orleans" reviewed by Glenn Astarita

Eminent avant-garde saxophonist Edward “Kidd" Jordan doesn't venture outside the New Orleans area that often, but like- minded artists will occasionally make the trip to the Big Easy to unite in the studio or for a live date. Such is the case here on this 2-disc set, capturing Jordan in trio and duo settings with late, ...
