Various Artists: Smooth Jazz Radio Hits, Volume One
It's two from the redoubtable Gota, three from the jam meister extraordinaire Count Basic, and one each from Soundscape UK, Brian Tarquin, Duncan Millar, Shakatak, Exodus Quartet, and Chris Standring.
If you do not know those names, and yet call yourself a smoothie, get this disc and get with it. This is as silky smooth as it gets. Skeptical? Oh ye of little faith! Check out the picture-perfect flute and blues-inspired tenor sax of Gota. The laid-back, dead-on guitar of Count Basic. Duncan Millar's soulful piano/sax sound. Shakatak's elegant, restrained, high-gloss attack.
This package contains a number of gems, from Basic's ultra-funky "M. L. in the Sunshine" to Exodus Quartet's riveting "Summer Soulstice." Many of these tracks are previously unreleased alternates. Don't miss them here, smoothies!
