Youtube Copies Twitter with 'Trending Topics'

YouTube is incorporating some Twitter-esque upgrades to its comments section. The Google-owned video site is launching a beta--or Test Tube--version of Comments Search, which will let users search YouTube comments in real time.

“The full comment will appear on a continuously updated results page, and 'trending topics' indicates the hottest topics of conversation on YouTube at that particular moment," YouTube wrote in a blog post.

Trending topics? They couldn't even come up with a different name?

The idea is to “find out what YouTube users are saying" about the more popular videos or topics of the day, YouTube said. It appears to be an easy way to track current trends on the site. Trouble is, YouTube comments are widely regarded as some of the least informed or helpful commentary on the Web.
