The battle of the two top social networks continues.
MySpace may be the most popularat the end of last week it was pulling 3.5 times more visitors than Facebook, according to a new report by Hitwise Intelligencebut each of the social networking sites has areas where it is more favored than the other.
Director of Research at Hitwise, Heather Dougherty, says the East and West Coasts of the nation have chosen their favorite social network.
When comparing the DMAs [markets] of the 2 websites to one another, an interesting trend pops outMySpace visitors are more likely to be located on the West Coast while Facebook has heavier representation on the East Coastthe coasts where each company was started," Dougherty says.
The study shows that the largest percentage of traffic on MySpace from a single city was 7.04 percent from Los Angeles. Facebook's largest percentage of traffic comes from New York City at 5.97 percent. East Coast cities such as Philadelphia, Boston, and Washington D.C. also contain a higher number of users on Facebook.
