Friday 24 July 7.30pm
Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, with special guest Chano Dominguez
Tickets 25/30/35
Produced by the Barbican in association with Serious Part of Blaze
Trumpeter Wynton Marsalis returns with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra for their last one-off concert before the Orchestra begins its long-term relationship with the Barbican as an International Associate. The LCJO, anchored in the usual Marsalis rhythm section of Dan Nimmer (piano), Ali Jackson (drums) and Carlos Henriquez (bass) is one of the most accomplished big bands in the history of jazz, and includes many world-class soloists in the horn sections, including legendary Scottish expatriate Joe Temperley. Marsalis himself is an established master of the trumpet, with a big, burnished sound and an apparently inexhaustible fund of ideas. His new Blue Note CD with his small group, He and She, explores the relationship between man and women in a rich suite of words and music. The remarkable Spanish pianist Chano Dominguez is one of the few musicians to build viable bridges between flamenco and contemporary jazz; his teaming up with the Lincoln Center Orchestra promises thrilling results.
