Turiya Mareya is one of a very rare breed, a Female Jazz Instrumentalist and Composer who has pursued a career playing Latin and Straight ahead Jazz with a Social Change Context. Her unique approach is based on World Music influences and drawing on the trance inducing and spirit calling focus of African and Indigenous approaches to music.
Women still remain largely out of sight in the Jazz World. Turiya Mareya, A Professional Jazz Musician for over 30 years is seeking to mentor and inspire Women Musicians to move to the next level of Art and Professionalism.
She will be moderating discussions on a variety of topics including: Techniques pulled from the traditions of American Jazz, Africa, Latin America and World Music to stimulate creativity and develop improvisational skills, The Art of Improvisation, Scales and Chords, Rhythmic Concepts, Latin Jazz- Montuno and Clave, Jazz Harmony and Theory, Composition and Arranging, Meditation, Inner Listening, Being in the Moment, Music as a Force for Social Change.
