Brooklyn, New York, May 22, 2004- The Williamsburg Music Center, a long-standing player on the Brooklyn music scene, has launched its new Web site at www.WMCJazz.com. The site features news and information about the Center, its resident band, the Williamsburg All Stars; its educational programs; and its jazz incubator, the Contemporary Composers Orchestra. The site also airs cuts from the band's latest album, Lovecentric.
Located in historic Williamsburg, Brooklyn, the Willamsburg Music Center has been entertaining local audiences with weekly live jazz performances and workshops since 1981. In recent years it has also provided after-school music instruction for neighborhood youth.
In 2003, founder and artistic director, Gerry Eastman moved to expand the center's artistic sphere with new programs, adding theatrical presentations, art exhibits, and poetry jams to its roster. The expansion has already begun to pay off with new audiences and more bookings. Eastman expects www.WMCJazz.com to further that success.
He also looks forward to reconnecting with jazz lovers he and the band have met over the years, predicting that the new Web site and new quarter e-zine, Jazz Intersection, launced in mid-February, will bring WMC and its fans even closer. Jazz is a powerful unifier. Our band members have friends and colleagues around the world-jazz lovers who have been to the club, musicians we've played with, or just people we've met while on tour. It will be nice to let them know what we're up to and, in turn, bring their news to our local community."
The Williamsburg All Stars, has toured extensively throughout the US, Europe, Japan and the Middle East,. Eastman, who plays bass and guitar for the group and has been a sideman for such New York notables as the Count Basie Orchesta, Frank Foster, and Stanley Turrentine, among others, says jazz apprecition has grown strong in the hip, young communities of downtown Brooklyn. It's a great time to be doing something new."
The www.WMCJazz.com site was producted by TellMedia Communications and designed and developed by Orlando Haddock, who has a number of high-impact sites to his credit, most notably that of the legendary bassist, Ron Carter. The team will continue to add features to the WMC site as it garners hits and feedback.
