I love the connection that the music creates with and between the people experiencing it. The communal nature of the dance party is the most important aspect.
—The Zyg 808
WAMPTRONICA, an innovative underground dance music collective primarily composed of Wampanoag music makers and media artists, is making waves with its unique fusion of House Music, Rare Groove, Afrobeats, and Breakbeats.

Founded in 2021, WAMPTRONICA's roots can be traced back to energetic dance parties held at the Native Arts Gallery in Mashpee. The collective's signature sound combines traditional DJing with live percussion, horns, and vocals, creating an immersive dance experience that has garnered a loyal following. Currently, WAMPTRONICA serves as the resident collective for The THUMP & SOUL SESSION, a monthly dance party at Gallery X in New Bedford held on the 3rd Saturday of each month, where attendees are encouraged to bring drums and join in the rhythm.

The collective is led by The ZYG 808, a multi-talented artist who excels as a DJ, vocalist, and percussionist. Starting his musical journey at age 13, The ZYG 808 has ventured into various genres, from EDM and Afrobeat to R&B and ambient/Neo-Symphonic. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish Soul Poets Records at just 16, resulting in the Grammy-nominated “At The Party" mixtape in 2018. He is also the drummer for the multi-Grammy nominated band, The GroovaLottos.

Joining The ZYG 808 is Mwalim DaPhunkee Professor, a seasoned composer, musician, and vocalist celebrated for his expertise across jazz, soul, House Music, and Afrobeats. Mwalim's unique blend of storytelling and musical expression has earned him recognition and a devoted fanbase. Mwalim is a founding member, keyboardist and the resident songwriter for The GroovaLottos as well.

Adding depth to WAMPTRONICA's sound is Asa Peters, a versatile musician with roots in Northeastern Algonquin, Haudenosaunee, West African, and Afro-Caribbean musical traditions. Asa's musical journey began with the saxophone in 4th grade and has since expanded to include electronic and hip-hop production, channeling his melodic instincts and dance-inspired rhythms.

Enhancing the collective's live performances and pop-up installations is visual artist and EDM producer Casey Figueroa, who provides captivating light and projection shows.

WAMPTRONICA's highly anticipated debut album, The Session, set to be released on Poly-Groove Records, promises to be a musical masterpiece under the creative direction of Mwalim DaPhunkee Professor. The album pays tribute to New York-style House Music and features singles like “Paradise over Peace," “Just Is…," “Handsome," and “The ABYSS."

As summer approaches, WAMPTRONICA has an exciting lineup of events planned, including pop-up street dance parties in Provincetown and Boston, guest appearances at underground dance parties across New England, and remixes for the legendary House Music label, Eightball Records.
