The Tinner Hill Heritage Foundation presents Shemekia Copeland and Sol Roots at The State Theatre on Friday June 13, 2014!
The Tinner Hill Blues Festival is a three-day annual event in Falls Church VA. The kickoff event this year will be Alligator Records artist Shemekia Copeland and Sol Roots performing at The State Theatre. The whole Tinner Hill Blues Festival will be held Friday June 13, Saturday June 14, and Sunday June 15 2014.

An Alligator Records artist, Shemekia continues to tour the world and to win fans at every stop. She's played with Buddy Guy and B.B. King, and has shared the stage with Taj Mahal, Dr. John and Koko Taylor, among many others. Indeed, Shemekia's soul-satisfying vocals and the lessons she learned from her father (Johnny Copeland), matched with her inner need to sing, have brought her to audiences both young and old. “I still listen to Aretha Franklin, Katie Webster, Trudy Lynn, Etta James, Howard Tate, India Arie and Angelique Kidjo. But I never try to copy them. They've all inspired me and helped me become my own person."

Sol Roots is a fierce guitarist and soulful singer who has toured around the world with many roots, funk, and blues legends. Sol's talent stretches from fiery rock to laid back jazz, and from funky innovative grooves to soulful ballads, drawing on a deep background in raw down-home blues.
Sol has performed on stage and in the studio with musical heavyweights Taj Mahal, Kenny Wayne Shepard, and with the international guitar hero Cool John Ferguson (nominated 2 years -Most Outstanding Guitarist-Living Blues), who he performed with steadily for years. The Tinner Hill Heritage Foundation was founded in 1997 to preserve the early civil rights history of Falls Church and vicinity. The Tinner Hill Heritage Foundation was established in 1997 as a 501 c (3) nonprofit corporation chartered in the Commonwealth of Virginia, with the following goals:
+ To preserve the rich cultural heritage of pioneering African Americans who fought racial segregation and established the nation’s first rural branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).
+ To promote understanding and respect for all people, sponsor educational and other activities designed to increase awareness for the achievements African Americans have made in Falls Church and Virginia.
+ To recognize the achievements of special individuals and groups by developing written materials; creating memorials and monuments; Organizing festivals, cultural events and observations and exhibitions; sponsoring workshops and seminars
+ To create Educational opportunities to disseminate to teachers, students and the general public the rich history of Tinner Hill and the citizens of the region providing photographic reproductions, videotaped productions, and online information services; and by any other appropriate means.
