THE CONWAY SUITE - redeye005 - released: 8th August 2005
Dave Stapleton - Church Organ Deri Roberts - Saxophones
YOU CAN HEAR TRACKS and PRE-ORDER YOUR COPY @ http://www.redeyemusic.co.uk/releases/redeye005.html
Recorded on February 10th 2005 at Conway Church, Cardiff, this duo project was initiated by pianist Dave Stapleton and saxophonist Deri Roberts (two key members of the improvised quartet ‘Full Circle’).
Inspired by their classical backgrounds and by the spacious and spiritual acoustics of the Conway church this recording is a document of 6 improvisations and part-composed pieces that display a new side to the collaborative relationship and chemistry between Roberts and Stapleton.
Crossing the boundaries between classical/spiritual music, jazz and contemporary minimalism, it's a very warm, mesmerizing and powerful recording full of seductive melodies and an atmosphere that veers between the scary and the sublime.
“Reminiscent of some of the best pages of ECM's masterpieces of the 70's and the 80's…A high-class record, worth of regular rechecking”. Massimo Ricci, Touching Extremes
