Songwriters are the unsung heroes when it comes to music. (Carole King, Kris Kristofferson and Bernie Taupin, long-time collaborator of Elton John come to mind.) There are songs that you've probably heard before, but never knew or thought who wrote them.

A great example of this is Sharon Robinson. She's been a collaborator of Canadian music legend, Leonard Cohen for over 30 years. Many of his finest works has Robinson's touch.

One song I mentioned in our interview in early October was the haunting, "A Thousand Kisses Deep". I asked her what was the driving force in developing that classic song.

"When (Cohen) he gave me the lyrics, we talked about the concepts of the song...and then I came up with a musical treatment as best as I can and came up with lyrics that serve its purpose as best as possible."

The normally reclusive Cohen spent time at a monastery and was also the inspiration to most of his works, including "Waiting for the Miracle" and "Everybody Knows", which was used in the 1990 film, "Pump Up The Volume".

She also was responsible for writing the song, "New Attitude" for Patti LaBelle for the highly successful, "Beverly Hills Cop" soundtrack in the mid-80's. The album gave Robinson three Grammy nominations in 1985, winning for Best Motion Picture Soundtrack.

Robinson's finally decided to release the first solo CD of her career. "Everybody Knows" has been well received by music critics worldwide. The track "Invisible Tatoo" has generated lots of buzz in the entertainment world.

"After working with Leonard, I started getting a sense of how to find myself as an artist and where I might focus my work. So this record is a combination of those two worlds."

No doubt that despite the long wait, Robinson's music career takes strides on her own unique style.
