LOS ANGELES, Calif. (May 14, 2008) -- Rob Mullins' 17th CD as a recording artist hits the Amazon MP3 store today marking the first original music CD by Rob in nine years. Titled “Storyteller", the new CD features ten original compositions and one reworking of a standard.

“People have been asking me for years, why haven't you made another CD of original music?" said Mullins from his recording studio today. “The answer is simple - I just haven't had time." Mullins' busy scheduling in Los Angeles includes running two recording studios, a music school, gigs with his performing bands, and writing curriculum for new books about jazz.

“I wanted to do all new music that reflected my changing perspectives on life and music from the last decade of my experiences, and Storyteller became that vehicle for me. I had forgotten how much work songwriting can be, and the 11 songs that made it to the album were picked out of 25 compositions that I recorded during August and September of last year. I set out to take jazz in a new direction with the compositional material, and have a wide variety of musical settings in which I put the piano."

Storyteller has been receiving airplay at 88.1 FM KJAZZ in Long Beach - the world's leading jazz station- for several months now but it was not available online for downloading to the public until today.

“I went to Amazon today, and noticed that some fans had already downloaded songs from the KJAZZ playlist including “Escher's Etude", Prime Time", “Back in the Day", and “Sleep Sweet", he said. “This is thrilling to be back writing new songs and hearing them on the radio after not having any time to work on my own music for several years."

Mullins is supporting the release of Storyteller with live shows which include the Pasadena Jazz Institute May 23, 2008 and the New Mexico Jazz Workshop June 27-28. Additionally, video of the performing band from a recent live show is available at planetmullins.com and on YouTube at youtube.com/planetmullins.
