Random Roads Collection, the latest CD of the high-octane chamber music group, PROJECT Trio, debuted this week at No. 15 on Billboard's U.S. classical music charts, No. 2 on the Nielsen SoundScan Canada's classical charts and, in a rare feat, simultaneously debuted at No. 17 on the trade magazine's jazz charts. The catalogue-spanning disc is PROJECT Trio's first recording for Tummy Touch Records. The disc includes tracks from each of the Trio's earlier recordings: Winter in June, Brooklyn, and Project Trio on the Trio's own record label, Harmonyville Records, along with two previously unreleased tracks. A fourth disc on the Harmonyville label is scheduled for the fall. Each of PROJECT Trio's recordings soared to the top of the iTunes charts upon their release. The Random Roads Collection and all of PROJECT Trio's recordings are available on iTunes and through their website, www.projecttrio.com.

PROJECT Trio consists of beat-boxing flutist Greg Pattillo, cellist Eric Stephenson, and bassist Peter Seymour. The Trio has taken chamber music to a whole new level, pushing the boundaries of classical music with a high-octane mix of jazz, hip-hop, and rock. The three musicians, who met as students at the Cleveland Institute of Music, write or arrange all of their own music, including their own interpretations of music from Bach to Guns 'n' Roses. Their YouTube videos have amassed a phenomenal 71 million viewings, making them one of the most viewed chamber music ensembles on the Internet.

They are especially committed to reaching out to young audiences. This season they had their first engagement as Family Concert Artists in Residence with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and performed concerts with the St. Louis and Charlotte Symphonies. They also led workshops at universities, music academies, and schools throughout the U.S., Canada, Australia, and Europe. The Trio's recent performances include appearances at the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, Brooklyn Academy of Music and tours of Australia, Canada, and Germany. Greg Pattillo recently demonstrated his beatbox style for Jay Leno and performed with The Tonight Show orchestra.

This month, the U.S. Department of State and the non-profit organization American Voices announced that Project Trio has been selected “for their musical excellence and educational capability" to be a part of American Music Abroad. American Music Abroad builds on Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton's vision of “smart power" diplomacy, embracing the use of a full range of diplomatic tools - in this case music - to bring people together and foster greater understanding. American Music Abroad activities focus on younger and underserved audiences in countries with little or no access to live American performances. The Trio will tour the former Soviet Union in May 2013 doing public concerts, master classes, workshops, jam sessions with local musicians, and media outreach.
