As a part of PeaceSmiths Cofee House concert series Anna Dagmar and Premik Russell Tubbs lend and blend their talents to provide a performance that will be remembered for years to come. This evening's highlighted music program will truly fit the description of 'a-typical, music, poetry and whatever coffeehouse' ...as one never knows what rhythms or instruments Premik might surprise us with...coupled with Anna's seemingly effortless piano skills and lyrics that free fall. Her haunting voice and poetic storybook tunes of a folk/pop style work well with Premik's jazz, East-West and world roots.

Premik Russell Tubbs, a composer, arranger, producer and an accomplished multi-instrumentalist performs on various flutes, soprano, alto and tenor saxophones, Akai EWI and Yamaha WX7 wind synthesizers, and lap steel guitar. To summarize the past few years Premik's 2008 schedule led him to perform in Sting's Rainforest Foundation Fund benefit concert Some Kinda Legacy at Carnegie Hall, extensive touring with Russian legend Boris Grebenshikov beginning in London at the Royal Albert Hall, continuing on to Dublin, Kiev, Milan, Moscow, St. Petersburg, ending the year in Vienna. May of 2009 brought Premik Russell Tubbs to California for the Narada Michael Walden Foundation, Let the Sunshine In benefit concert. On several occassions in 2009 he accompanied the contemporary Rabindrasangeet vocalist Rezwana Chowdhury Banya. May of 2010 Premik played at Carnegie Hall in the The Rainforest Fund's 21st Birthday Celebration Benefit Concert. He performed in Bulgaria, Macedonia, Serbia, Hungary, and Croatia as part of a 2010 Balkans Tour and in June of 2010 Premik Russell Tubbs played at Sting & Trudie Styler's NYC apartment (private dinner- fund raiser) following the Jazz at Lincoln Center performance of Twin Spirits, a celebration of composer Robert Schumann's 200th birthday.
Premik Russell Tubbs, in conjunction with jazz pianist Uli Geissendoerfer, heads Bangalore Breakdown, an exciting, experimental jazz ensemble. They just released their first CD, titled Diary, in 2008. Premik Russell Tubbs and Uli, in 2010, will release their own collaborative CD with a Balkans/Germany tour planned for the latter end of the year. Premik Russell Tubbs also leads The Light Riders; a world, jazz, East-West quartet featuring top New York players. In 2004, Premik Russell Tubbs had released his own album, Mission Transcendence, a soulful melding of East /West, jazz and world styles. Born in England and raised in Massachusetts, Anna Dagmar has been influenced by a wide range of composers including Beethoven, Debussy, Keith Jarrett, Bill Evans and Joni Mitchell. She moved to New York City in summer of 2001, after graduating from the Eastman School of Music and has since released three full-length albums of original songs. Her most recent CD, “Let the Waves Come in Threes," was produced by Ben Wittman (of Patty Larkin and Jonatha Brooke) and held Top 20 Positions on the National Roots Music Report, peaking at #6. The title track tells the vivid tale of a young girl whose treasured diary is swept up in an ocean storm. Another soulful ballad, “Amazed," was chosen by British conductor Alex Douglas for a gospel arrangement and was premiered in Bristol by the Lifted Voices Choir. The album closes with a hopeful lament, Can We Be Old Friends, which evokes the period of the Civil War, and tells the story of two enemy soldiers at the end of a battle who decide to let down their arms.
Anna Dagmar tours frequently around the US and as far as Stockholm and London and has played and recorded with many artists including Nadine Goellner, Lucy Kaplansky, Ellis Paul, Melineh Kurdian and The Lascivious Biddies. She has performed on special occasions for luminaries such as photographer Annie Leibovitz and Swedish Nobel Prize Winner, Torsten Weisel. She met saxophonist Premik Russell Tubbs as part of an East-Meets-West quartet let by sitarist Ikhlaq Hussain, and they had the honor of performing Indo-Classical Ragas for former Pakistani Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz. Dagmar's music has been featured on compilations for Peace-Driven Songs and Children's International. This fall, she has been included on many peace-inspired programs including The September Concerts and the UN International Day of Peace Vigil, and she looks forward to sharing an evening of uplifting music at Peacesmiths Coffeehouse.
