Influenced by the vast range of musical styles arising out of his hometown of Madrid, pianist Miguel Rodriguez has come up with his own style. This distinct mix of improvisation, flamenco and Latin is apparent on the self-titled debut Miguel Rodríguez recorded with his band. The album will be released in digital format on 22 February.

After his piano studies at the Rotterdam and Amsterdam conservatories, Miguel Rodríguez saw no reason to return to his native Spain since he considered the Netherlands a hotbed for some of the best jazz music being produced in Europe right now. Taking full advantage, he began a trio with contrabassist Luciano Poli and drummer Francesco de Rubeis.

After a period of experimentation in various directions, the line-up expanded to take on percussionist Miguel Hiroshi and flamenco singer Maria Marin. As a full band, they recorded their debut in 2012.

The album is the result of his musical experiences he picked up mostly in Spain, Latin America and North America. His music fittingly combines intense and energetic rhythms with very sensitive melodies. From 22 February, the album will be available digitally via such outlets as iTunes, Spotify and Bandcamp.
