The First Jazz Series on Network Television in 40 Years!
Six New Episodes Completed, Seven More to be Taped This Fall, Weekly Series to Start in January 2006
LRSmedia and WTTW National Productions just completed final 5.1 surround mix sessions at The Creative Group in New York City for six new episodes of the new PBS series Legends of Jazz, the first jazz series airing on network television in over 40 years. Produced in multi-camera HDTV and Dolby Surround 5.1 audio, the episodes that were recently completed in post-production include The Golden Horns with Clark Terry, Chris Botti, and Roy Hargrove; The Altos with David Sanborn and Phil Woods; The Tenors with Benny Golson, Chris Potter and Marcus Strickland; Contemporary Jazz with George Duke, Lee Ritenour, and Marcus Miller; Latin Jazz with Eddie Palmieri and Dave Valentin; and The Killer B's: A Tribute to the Hammond B3 Organ with Joey DeFrancesco and Dr. Lonnie Smith.
Seven more Legends of Jazz episodes will be taped this fall at WTTW National Productions in Chicago, IL. Those shows will highlight Piano Masters with Dave Brubeck and Dr. Billy Taylor; Jazz Vocal: Male with Al Jarreau and Kurt Elling; Great Guitars with Pat Metheny and Jim Hall; Brazilian Jazz; Voices Of The Next Generation; Roots: The Blues; and Where Jazz Meets Pop. All thirteen of the weekly, 30-minute episodes will debut in January 2006.
Hosted by GRAMMY Award-winning composer/pianist Ramsey Lewis, Legends Of Jazz debuted nationally on June 16 with the hour-long special, The Jazz Masters, showcasing five winners of the NEA Jazz Masters Award - Nancy Wilson, James Moody, Jon Hendricks, Paquito D'Rivera and George Wein - as well as young jazz vocal sensation Renee Olstead.
