Paradox Trio creates original music inspired by Eastern European, Gypsy and downtown NY traditions cutting across stylistic and geographic boundaries such as Bulgarian kaval music, Klezmer and improv jazz.

The band will play tunes from their new US release Gambit that further explores the Balkan, Gypsy and jazz marriage. The album features kaval player Theodosii Spassov on record, who is known for leaving audiences in awe of his technical wizardry, his unique and passionate style and for extending the sonic possibilities of this quintessential Bulgarian instrument (similar to the Arabic ney). He has toured extensively with Trilok Gurtu, Glen Velez and Rabih Abou-Khalil and River Dance.

Paradox Trio is Matt Darriau (on sax and clarinet & two unique Bulgarian instruments, the Kaval (end-blown flute) and the Gaida (bagpipe)), Brad Shepik (on guitars and Balkan strings), Rufus Cappadocia (on 5-string cello), and Seido Salifoski (on dumbeks and percussion.)

This hard working crew makes joyful music with an edge, and it happens - from rhythmic Klezmer to offbeat Balkan tunes - with apparent ease.
