As part of its month-long celebration of Jazz in January, AccuJazz.com Internet radio is recognizing January jazz birthdays with a new streaming radio channel playing thousands of songs by jazz artists celebrating birthdays this month. In addition to that channel, AccuJazz has also launched channels highlighting this Spring's two biggest American jazz festivals: SFJazz and the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.
The January birthday channel features the music of over 30 jazz musicians born in the month of January, including legends like Django Reinhardt, Max Roach and Bobby Hutcherson. Younger jazz masters like Jason Moran, Chris Potter and James Carter add to the channel's diversity. Alongside its regular programming, AccuJazz's main channel is featuring the music of the following nine jazz legends with January birthdays: Reinhardt, Roach, Hutcherson, Herbie Nichols, Joe Pass, Milt Jackson, Gary Burton, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Benny Golson.
The two jazz festival channels launched this week play music by the many artists performing at SFJazz and the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, respectively. The SFJazz programming is incredibly diverse, encompassing the lush vocal artistry of Dianne Reeves and Kurt Elling, the funky soul-jazz of Maceo Parker and Lou Donaldson, and the innovative modernism of younger artists like Rudresh Mahanthappa and Joshua Redman.
While the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage festival is more of a rock and pop festival than anything else nowadays, there still will be plenty of wonderful jazz heard at the fest, and AccuJazz.com has it covered. Listeners to the channel will hear plenty of music by NOLA natives scheduled to play, including Brian Blade, Terence Blanchard, Irvin Mayfield, Galactic, Allen Toussaint and the Rebirth Brass Band.
