A proud member of the celebrated Clayton jazz family, MzVal grew up surrounded by a rich musical legacy that shaped her expressive, heartfelt style. Drawing inspiration from legendary voices such as Sarah Vaughan, Dinah Washington, Nancy Wilson, and Nina Simone, she has developed a sound that is both classic and deeply personal.

Her career began with a major breakthrough as a Raelette, touring internationally with the incomparable Ray Charles in the early 1990s. Since then, she has graced stages across the world, from musical theater productions like Ain’t Misbehavin’ and Chicago to high-profile performances of the national anthem for NBA franchises including the Lakers, Clippers, and Spurs.

Offstage, MzVal dedicated years to serving as an academic counselor, mentoring and inspiring young people while never letting go of her own musical journey. This balance of guidance and performance enriches her artistry, infusing her music with depth, empathy, and real-world perspective.

Her debut album, Simply Me, represents a milestone in her career—a heartfelt collection that captures her journey, influences, and unwavering passion for storytelling through song.
