While 50% of U.S. broadband households prefer the computer as their digital music access point, the proliferation of smartphones, connected devices and cloud-based services are changing that. In 2010, 34% of U.S. broadband consumers were using their mobile phone as a music player, up from 9% in 2007, according to a new Parks Associates report.
That's expect to rise dramatically in 2011 and beyond.
In response, digital music services like Pandora, Spotify, Slacker, MOG and others are aggressively forming partnerships to make their services accessible through more devices. Record labels and artists are also increasingly developing their own mobile strategy.
Revenue growth in digital music dropped from 91% in 2006 to 6% in 2010, according to Parks.
