MTNLLY Returns With “Clara,” Exploring Grief, Memory And Loss
Independent jazz artist MTNLLY announces Clara, an atmospheric jazz concept EP, exploring grief, memory, obsession, and the impossible act of letting go.
Drawing inspiration from the emotional arc of the Doctor's grief, Clara translates one of television's most emotionally devastating narratives into an immersive musical experience. Through atmospheric jazz textures, introspective arrangements, and recurring musical motifs, the project examines the emotional architecture of mourning and the ways memory can become both a source of comfort and an inescapable presence.
Tracks including “The God Complex,” “The Silence Before the Last Heartbeat,” and “Remember Me” form part of a project centred on loss, remembrance, and emotional fixation. Clara uses jazz as a vehicle for exploring the repetition, isolation, difficulty of moving beyond someone who remains present through memory, and the internal experience of grief.
MTNLLY's approach to storytelling through atmosphere and musical detail carry much of the narrative. The result is an introspective work shaped by themes of mourning, memory, and the tension between holding on and letting go.
MTNLLY has previously released projects including NOVEMBER (Self Produced, 2023) and Grey Is My Favourite Colour (Self Produced, 2024), establishing a body of work rooted in mood, and emotional depth.
With Clara, MTNLLY continues that exploration, but evolving it into a jazz project that draws together, conceptual storytelling, and the emotional language of grief.
