Regional winner of the Grands Prix du tourisme québécois 2005, Denis Brott’s festival featuring Jazz Series artistic direction by Oliver Jones will represent Montreal at the province-wide gala in May.
Montréal, Monday April 18, 2005 — The Montreal Chamber Music Festival has been named finalist in the Gala des Grands Prix du tourisme québécois 2005 contest, obtaining important recognition for the significance of its contribution to the growth of the Quebec economy and to the development of the province’s tourist industry. Each year, the Grands Prix du tourisme québécois reward tourist organisations whose products and services are of exceptional quality. The winner of the province-wide grand prize, offered by Quebec’s Ministère du Tourisme, will be announced on Friday May 6th at Quebec City’s Centre des congrès.
The Festival holds Tourisme Montréal’s Grands Prix du tourisme québécois 2005’s regional title in the Festival et événement touristique – budget d'exploitation de moins de 500 000 $ category since March 22nd. Denis Brott, Founder and Director of the Montreal Chamber Music Festival, was thus honoured with his second award since the end of the Festival’s last season, having been named to the Academy of Great Montrealers by the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal in October 2004.
To be in the running for such a prestigious award as the Grands Prix du tourisme québécois, in our tenth anniversary year, is of invaluable encouragement to our festival," states Denis Brott. Recognition coming from important organizations like Tourisme Montréal and the Ministère du Tourisme validates the efforts of a non-profit organization, like ours, that has earned an international reputation while participating fully in developing the cultural scene here in Quebec."
The Montreal Chamber Music Festival aims to contribute to Montreal’s growth as a cultural tourism centre by creating high-quality events featuring internationally renowned artists. The satisfaction of its public is a testament to the success of this strategy. A 2004 Léger Marketing survey confirms that 90% of concert-goers are enthusiastic about the Festival and 94% intend to return. The same year, the Festival experienced a 20% growth in ticket sales in comparison to 2003. The participation of American tourists, principally from the greater New York and Boston areas, increases annually.
About the Montreal Chamber Music Festival Founded in 1995 and regional winner of the Grands Prix du tourisme québécois 2005, the Montreal Chamber Music Festival is considered to be one of the province’s main tourist attractions, as well as one of the most prestigious of its kind.
