Join the Michigan State University professors of jazz as they celebrate the holiday season with jazzy renditions of their own holiday favorites during “A Jazzy Little Christmas," at 8 p.m. Dec. 19 at Wharton Center's Pasant Theatre.

Led by artistic director and jazz bassist Rodney Whitaker, the world-class musicians who make up the faculty in the MSU College of Music's jazz studies program, promise to whip up a magical night for all.

The third concert of four in the Michigan State University College of Music's Showcase Series, “A Jazzy Little Christmas" offers something new and exciting for jazz lovers to make merry and get into the holiday spirit.

The Professors of Jazz features faculty members Wessell Anderson (alto saxophone), Etienne Charles (trumpet), Randy Gelispie (drums), Diego Rivera (tenor saxophone), Rick Roe (piano), Whitaker and Sunny Wilkinson (voice). Special guest singers Richard Fracker, Melanie Helton, Matthew Hunter and Betty Joplin will be joining the professors and offering their own spin on holiday songs.

“We are inviting everybody to join us for a swinging evening, “ said Whitaker, director of jazz studies at MSU. “All of the artists are world-class performers who participate in concerts all over the world. You would have to fly to New York, San Francisco or other parts of the world to hear many of these artists perform."
