FAT TUESDAY ON THURSDAY
BENEFIT FOR NEW ORLEANS MUSICIANS CLINIC
AT MULTIPLE VENUES ON OCT. 20
CLEVELAND – Music fans can enjoy a range of music from rock to reggae to jazz at some of their favorite pubs, restaurants and other venues, all to help musicians impacted by Hurricane Katrina on Thursday, Oct. 20 from 5 p.m. until closing. A suggested donation of $10 will give music fans entrance to all venues for the evening.
Organized by volunteers of Tri-C JazzFest Cleveland, RAT (Tri-C Recording Arts and Technology) and Undercurrents, this ‘musicians for musicians’ benefit will feature more than 12 venues and 30 bands, who are donating their space and talents to benefit the New Orleans Musicians Clinic, a non-profit, New Orleans-based organization that provides comprehensive health care for musicians.
“We’re very excited about the response from local musicians and businesses to help one of New Orleans most well-known products – its music and musicians,” says Brian Bethune, Dean of Performing Arts at Cuyahoga Community College. “With the variety of locations around the city, Clevelanders can drop into their favorite neighborhood establishment, enjoy the music and help a great organization.”
All of the proceeds will go directly to the New Orleans Musicians Clinic, Bethune adds.
Founded in 1998, the New Orleans Musicians Clinic (NOMC) is the first of its kind, not-profit health care service for musicians offering comprehensive, preventative and occupational medicine. Sponsored by the Daughters of Charity Services of New Orleans, The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation and the LSU Health Care Network, the NOMC is the first such health initiative and wellness partnership in the United States addressing the health care needs of musicians and their families.
