The Johnny Pate 80th Birthday celebration will be at the University of Nevada Las Vegas Judy Bayley Theater, Sunday March 30th at 2pm. Pate, was Joe Willams last conductor. He also was arranger and conductor for Wes Montgomery and James Moody among many others when he was working in Chicago many years ago.The concert will feature Kenny Burrell, James Moody, Phil Woods, Monty Alexander, Ron Carter, Harvey Mason, Shirley Horn and Marlena Shaw. They will be backed by the UNLV Jazz Ensemble conducted by Mr. Pate. The event is sponsored by the Arnold Shaw Popular Music Research Center and the Las Vegas Jazz Society.
