25On Friday, May 25th at 9:00 p.m., the Reddy Music Concert Series will present The Jef Lee Johnson Group and the Rob Reddy Trio at Brooklyn's Jalopy Theater. This will be the second event presented by this new monthly series, which is curated by saxophonist/ composer Rob Reddy as an extension of his label, Reddy Music.

Philadelphia-based guitarist/composer Jef Lee Johnson has appeared on more than 115 recordings, working with everyone from Billy Joel to The Roots to Ronald Shannon Jackson. The popular session musician, and former member of Paul Schaeffer's World's Most Dangerous Band, has also toured and recorded as a leader, inspiring critics to write “He is what the music used to be: unpredictable" (Philadelphia Inquirer) and “[his] considerable abilities and unique songwriting outlook make Johnson, the artist, a true original" (JazzTimes). His most recent CD is 2005's Thisness (Hope Street).

Critics have called Reddy “a versatile and adventurous saxophonist" (Scott Yanow, All Music Guide) and “an impressive and open-minded tunesmith" (Troy Collins, AllAboutJazz.com), noting that he “sounds, and dares to sound, like no one but himself (Brian Morton, Jazz Review). His latest CD, A Hundred Jumping Devils (Reddy Music) was released in October, and he recently conducted the world premiere of his latest commissioned work, “The Book of the Storm," at Tribeca Performing Arts Center's Work and Show Festival. A live recording of that concert is coming this fall, as are the world premiere performances of two new commissioned works.

The next Reddy Music Concert Series event is Saturday, June 30th featuring Curtis Hasselbring's Curha-chestra and Guillermo E. Brown's Cut Up Quintet.
