Gold for Bud Shank “Against the Tide"

The international Aurora Awards, which recognizes excellence in the film and video industries, has honored Jazzed Media with a 2008 gold award for the documentary film Bud Shank Against the Tide.

The documentary film was produced and directed by multi-Grammy nominated and award winning filmmaker Graham Carter, founder of Jazzed Media. Jazzed Media produces jazz CDs and documentary jazz films.

Bud Shank Against the Tide salutes legendary jazz alto saxophonist Bud Shank who's over 60 year career in jazz includes work with Charlie Barnet, Stan Kenton, Howard Rumsey's Lighthouse All-Stars, Laurindo Almeida, and The LA4.
The name Bud Shank is synonymous with West Coast jazz. He is credited as being the one of the first musicians to introduce the flute to jazz; he also was one of the key figures to introduce Central and South American sounds to the idiom, along with Laurindo Almeida in the early 1950s, which led to the formation of Bossa Nova a few years later.

The Aurora Awards honor excellence in independent film and video for commercials, cable programming, documentaries, industrial, instructional and corporate videos as judged by a panel of seasoned film and video professionals.

Jazzed Media, a jazz record label and film production company, was founded in the Denver, Colorado metropolitan area in 2002. Jazzed Media's owner Graham Carter is a multi-Grammy nominated record producer (The Bill Holman Band Live and The Bill Holman Band Hommage) and award winning jazz filmmaker (Phil Woods A Life in E Flat & Bud Shank Against the Tide).
