Legendary Jazz photographer WILLIAM CLAXTON
Talk & book signing for “Jazzlife"
Wednesday, November 30, 2005 at 7 pm
at The Booksmith (1644 Haight Street in San Francisco)

--- In 1959 and 1960, photographer William Claxton and the late German musicologist Joachim Berendt traveled the United States is search of jazz. The result of their collaboration was a landmark collection of photographs and recordings which - having been long out of print - has now been reissued in a truly monumental (nearly 20 lbs and more than 700 pages) new edition entitled “Jazzlife." William Claxton will speak about his books and photography, and a booksigning will follow.

This event is William Claxton's only San Francisco appearance, and a rare opportunity to meet this legendary photographer!

William Claxton holds a special place in the history of American photography. Since his early days shooting for LIFE, Paris Match, and Vogue - Claxton has worked with many Hollywood luminaries and jazz musicians, most notably Steve McQueen and Chet Baker. Claxton, whose imagery has graced the covers of countless albums and magazine covers, is considered the preeminent photographer of jazz music.
