Jazz It Up! Web TV Show Seen by over 160,000

New York, NY - Since the launch of its branding site and first episode, Jazz it Up! has become an online hit in the jazz community.

Over 160,000 people have watched the promotional trailer and premiere show!

The Internet's first jazz news TV series is co-produced and hosted by print and broadcast journalist Greg Thomas.

“We're extremely excited about the reception of the jazz community to Jazz it Up!," says Thomas. “Our goals are to expand the jazz audience, and to heighten appreciation and support of this profound yet accessible musical idiom, the musicians who keep it alive, and the jazz music industry itself."

“I enjoyed the first episode--Stevie Wonder on “Giant Steps"...WOW!" -- Dr. Lewis Porter, Director, M.A. Program in Jazz History and Research, Rutgers University

“The show was great! Very diverse, great live video, great Ella of course, nice community focus in Harlem, really well done on a lot of levels. I think this is going to get the music out to more people, in a real way, with depth and history added through the interviews and classic videos." --Jon Gordon, saxophonist (winner of the 1996 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition)

“Great mix of live jazz, interviews and jazz education - keep up the dynamic work. You can tell it's a labor of love." --Bob Stewart, Jazz tuba master and Juilliard Jazz professor

The next episode of Jazz it Up! features performances by saxophonist Tia Fuller, Harlem organ legend Jimmy “Preacher" Robins, additional live coverage of the recent IAJE conference, with performances by the legendary Nancy Wilson, the Clayton Brothers Quintet (with trumpeter Terrell Stafford), the Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Band, fronted by Slide Hampton, jazz education and news.

Rare footage of Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, courtesy of Jazz Icons, is another highlight of the upcoming show.

“I loved your first show. I really liked the short interview at the end with Grady Tate; he's always been one of my favorite drummers, and it was really wonderful to see and hear his terrific attitude toward working, not only with the greats of the past, but his excitement of working with (and mentoring) the young greats of today." --Mark Hendricks, Jazz Lover and Internet Marketing Expert, Florida

“The mixture of performances, interviews, and news was fast moving and entertaining. Also, the blending of classic artists such as Jon Hendricks and contemporary musicians like Stevie Wonder and Stanley Clarke offers serious and novice enthusiasts entry points. I think it is a very timely and engaging vehicle for promoting Jazz to a new generation of 'Internet Technology Babies'." --Eugene Adams, Jazz Fan and Educator, New York

“I've been turning all of my jazz friends on to your show and they love it!" --Keith London, Publisher & Executive Producer, Defined Mind, Inc.

Upcoming episodes will include:

  • Coverage of the Juilliard Jazz benefit, “Tribute to Jazz Legends," hosted by Benny Golson, with performances by James Moody, Clark Terry, Joe Wilder, Frank Wess, Dr. Billy Taylor, Vanessa Rubin and Kenny Barron along with the Juilliard Jazz Orchestra, led by saxophonist Victor Goines.

  • Bassist Christian McBride teaching the National Jazz Museum in Harlem's free adult jazz education class, Jazz for Curious Listeners. (Don't tell anyone, but if you subscribe, you'll soon see McBride play a Paul Chambers bass solo with a classic Miles Davis recording for the class.)

  • Performance and interview with the exciting young saxophonist Jowee Omicil during coverage of the Haitian Jazz Festival.

  • The Cape May Jazz Festival, with performances by Pat Martino, Terence Blanchard, Omar Sosa, Charles Fambrough, Maurice Brown as well as vocalists Joanna Pascale and Sharon Clark.

  • A thrilling performance by the young jazz piano phenomenon, Eldar.

  • The soulful jazz vocalist Tom Lellis, singing and playing piano at the historic Riverside Church.

  • Blues and jazz musician Olu Dara at the Studio Museum in Harlem.

  • Gustavo Casenave (from Uruguay) and guitarist Roland Gebhardt (from Germany) in a captivating duet at East Harlem's Harbor Conservatory combining jazz, Latin, and European classical approaches.

“Bravo! The interviews are insightful, and I loved the archival footage of Ella. You're doing something very unique that has been missing in jazz. The failure other jazz TV shows is that they do not take the time to hit the streets and reach the masses." --Richard Conde, Jazz photographer

“Greg, you are natural on camera. The production values and sound are quite good also!" --Wanda Mann, Events Planner and founder, Mann About Town website, New York

“Congratulations to you for starting a much needed forum for publicizing jazz and educating individuals about such a wonderful art form." --Laura Henrich, Laura Henrich Arts Management, Philadelphia, PA
