We made a full immersion in the sounds of poems, words, structures, poetic forms; we read their stories and transformed them into melodies, into sonorous, liquid emotions, uniting our different musical writings for the goal of telling these R-Existences, grasping their essence.

The new albumR-Esistenze by the Italian female jazz duo B.I.T. DUO, is a poetic and powerful journey through memory, identity, and resistance.

A Sonic Journey Through History and Inner Landscapes

The Italian female jazz duo B.I.T. (Back In Time), composed of saxophonist Danielle Di Majo and pianist Manuela Pasqui, returns with R-Esistenze, an album that intertwines memory, identity, and poetic resistance in an evocative soundscape of original compositions.

The name B.I.T. (Back In Time) carries a double meaning. The first recalls the idea of a time machine: in their exploration of musical origins, the duo envisioned themselves as pilots journeying through different eras, searching for fragments that could reveal the roots of their own musical language. The second meaning plays on the word beat, symbolizing rhythm, pulse, and shared presence, that intimate space where two musicians meet in expressive honesty and spontaneous creation.

Released on April 25, 2025, R-Esistenze stands as a reflection on cultural heritage and the resilience of the human spirit, a theme symbolically tied to Italy’s Liberation Day, marking the 80th Anniversary of the Italian Resistance. This national commemoration celebrates the country’s liberation from Nazi-Fascism in 1945 and honours the courage of those who fought for freedom, equality, and democracy, values that continue to inspire generations.

Following its acclaimed European release, B.I.T. now sets its sights on the international stage, ready to bring R-Esistenze to a global audience. Through its evocative soundscapes and original compositions, R-Esistenze transforms this legacy of resistance into a contemporary dialogue of sound and emotion. Through music, B.I.T. transforms history into emotion, bridging past and present with elegance and depth.

Music Inspired by Voices of Courage and Thought

In R-Esistenze, the duo draws inspiration from women between the 1920s and 1950s, who left an indelible mark and shaped Italy’s intellectual and civic life through political action, activism and poetry. They were writers and poets, such as Lalla Romano, Miriam Mafai, Joyce Lussu, Dacia Maraini, or Eugenio Montale, as well as from the stories of ordinary people who embodied courage and civic consciousness.

“We made a full immersion in the sounds of poems, words, structures, poetic forms; we read their stories and transformed them into melodies, into sonorous, liquid emotions, uniting our different musical writings for the goal of telling these r-Existences, grasping their essence.

The compositions are characterized by evocative and lyrical themes, by very open and patternless structures that leave room for our improvisational sensitivity, just like a story.” say Di Majo and Pasqui.

The result is a series of lyrical and evocative compositions with open structures, allowing room for improvisation and dialogue, just like a story, the hallmarks of B.I.T. 's creative synergy.

An Evolving Artistic Dialogue

Formed in 2019, B.I.T. is an Italian jazz duo formed by Danielle Di Majo and Manuela Pasqui, that has steadily gained recognition for its refined interplay, and distinctive sound. From the start, a special bond emerged between the two artists, founded on shared artistic goals and a deep spirit of musical exploration. Their musical dialogue, intimate yet powerful, merges melodic sensitivity, improvisational depth, and conceptual clarity.

Their creative evolution is marked by a trilogy of acclaimed recordings for the Italian label Filibusta Records:
  • Come Again (2021)—Filibusta Records—– Reimagining classical repertoire and original works
  • Equilibrismi (2023)—Filibusta Records-– A collection of original pieces exploring balance and dialogue
  • Puccini, My Love (2024)—Filibusta Records-– A bold reinterpretation of Puccini’s music, premiered to a sold-out audience at Casa del Jazz (Rome) and featured on a successful U.S. tour (Washington D.C., Chicago, Cleveland, Madison)

With R-Esistenze, the duo pushes further into personal language and compositional freedom, blending jazz, contemporary classical, and poetic influences.

About the Artists

Danielle Di Majo and Manuela Pasqui have been performing as a jazz duo since 2019. From the very beginning, a special bond was formed through the sharing of artistic goals that inspired their “musical research.” With this ensemble, they have already released three albums on the Filibusta Records label, in 2021, 2023, and 2024.

Their first album as B.I.T., Come Again(Filibusta Records), was based on a new interpretation of material drawn from classical repertoires alongside original compositions. Their aim was to build a personal sound and lyricism while developing a shared musical language.

The second album, Equilibrismi (Filibusta Records), presented an exclusive collection of original pieces. It offered fertile ground for the two instrumentalists to deepen their melodic expressiveness and explore the art of dialogue between two musical voices—the result of ongoing, in-depth research in both composition and improvisation.

In 2024, Puccini, My Love (Filibusta Records) was released, a tribute to Giacomo Puccini on the centenary of his death. The album blends the Italian composer’s music with original pieces inspired by his works. The idea of merging jazz improvisation with Puccini’s operatic language represents a bold and creative experiment, offering a fresh perspective on the Maestro’s legacy. Each piece is reinterpreted through original arrangements by Manuela Pasqui, revealing how Puccini’s music can be transformed and renewed through different styles and interpretations.

The album premiered to a sold-out audience at Casa del Jazz in Rome and was followed by a U.S. tour in May/June 2024, including performances at:

  • May 29: Abramson Family Auditorium, NYU – Washington DC (Italian Cultural Institute)
  • May 30: Fulton Street Collective – Chicago (Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago)
  • June 2: Bobstop Club – Cleveland (Ohio)
  • June 4: Festa della Repubblica – Chicago
  • June 7: Artlitlab Jazz Festival – Madison (Wisconsin)
