'Internet for Everyone' Group Launches

Are you reading this via a broadband connection? Well, congratulations. Half of your fellow Americans are not so lucky, according to a new initiative aimed at connecting all citizens to high-speed Internet.

The Internet for Everyone effort, spearheaded by Free Press, kicked off Tuesday with a variety of Internet luminaries singing its praises.

The group will not back any particular legislation, but will instead push for coordination among stakeholders on the four basic principles of access, choice, openness and innovation, Josh Silver, executive director of Free Press, said during a Manhattan press conference.

“The future of the Internet is the future of nearly all media TV, radio, phones, and movies are all moving to a digital platform," Silver said.
