Young alto saxophonist Alex Han, 20, has been booked for an international summer tour with two-time Grammy-winning electric bassist Marcus Miller.

The tour begins July 3 with the Istanbul Jazz Festival in Turkey and continues across Europe, including the Jazz a Juan festival in Antibes, France, and the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland.,ending July 29. Prior to the tour, Han will perform with Terri Lyne Carrington and George Duke on June 8 at Chicago's Pearl Fest 2008. ...

'Catch a Rising Star' Series Presented by Jazz in Arizona Features Youth & Pro Bands

Teen-age musicians from across the Phoenix metropolitan area are being featured with local pros for the annual “Catch A Rising Star" summer concert series presented by Jazz in Arizona.

The series pairs up-and-comers with established Valley jazz artists performing at 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays at the Kerr Cultural Center, 6110 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale, 480-596-2660. The concerts are co-presented by Jazz in AZ and Kerr with support from the Scottsdale Arts Council.

Jazz in AZ Honors Nancy Gee with 2008 Lifetime Achievement Award

Longtime Arizona jazz vocalist Nancy Gee was presented the 2008 Jazz in Arizona Lifetime Achievement Award by JiA president Stan Rader at a concert following the organization's recent annual meeting.

The award was established to recognize those who have enriched the legacy of jazz by making significant contributions in Arizona. Previous recipients were Nadine Jansen, Dave Cook, Keith Greko, Armand Boatman, Prince Shell, Margo Reed and Charles Lewis.
