At a meeting to discuss the issue, there was great turnout for the NJO. The season has been spared, for now. You can read more about the results ...

Why Telling Artists to Stop Selling Music and Just Make Money Through Live Shows is Ridiculous

Source:

Giving away all your music for free and trying to make your living via other revenue streams can be a valid approach. Except that I don't know of any musicians actually doing that. The ones who do make all their music available for free are also selling it and some are doing just fine without touring at all. As a one size fits all solution, it still seems to be the fantasy mostly of people in the tech world, which ...

In terms of the straight numbers, music fans purchased 698 million song downloads in the first six months of last year, and only 682.2 million this year. This marks the first time that ...

By Michael Robertson, a seriel music tech entrepennuer and founder of the original MP3.com. His current projects include Dar.fm. JazzWax by Marc Myers
Over the weekend, the Wall Street Journal/Europe ran my interviews with John Cale, Robert Glasper, Joan as Police Woman and Ari Picker on the future of music. Since the Europe edition is unavailable in North America and my interviews needed to be shortened to fit, I thought I'd make them available here in their entirety... Robert Glasper, 35, won a Grammy this year for his album Black Radio. The jazz pianist's follow-up, Black Radio 2, will be released in the ...

Building a Music Collection in the Digital Age

Source:
HypeBot
By Aarti Kelapure of Evolver.fm. Recently, my editor lamented the challenge of collecting music when we find and listen to it from so many different sources. Without a one-size-fits-all solution, we end up forgetting some of the music we've stumbled upon across services. Other times, we come across something we don't have time to listen to, but want to check out later. Again, without a solid collection option, the song disappears into digital oblivion. Sean Adams from Drowned in Sound ...
