Follow along with charismatic and dynamic saxophonist/bandleader Lakecia Benjamin, as she travels through the streets of Manhattan on the way to the release of Motema Music debut, Retox. While she’s made quite an impact with her impressive sax work on stage and on record, Benjamin opted to take a slightly different tack on RETOX, which will be released on June 12. On the CD, she allows her talents as a composer and producer to share the spotlight with her funky ...

JazzWax by Marc Myers
In November 1984, Zoot Sims was in Lidingö, Sweden, with Red Mitchell on bass and Rune Gustafsson on guitar. All three artists have since died—Sims in 1985, Mitchell in 1992 and Gustafsson in 2011. To some extent, it's unfortunate that Mitchell was Sims' interviewer, since his insider status inadvertently caused him to miss several opportunities to ask ...

I'm on the road again this week, but I haven't forgotten you. Here's the first in a series of fabulous daily videos. Today, '60s French singing sensation Sacha Distel teams with Mireille Mathieu on the theme from A Man and A Woman in 1966. Mathieu was a powerful pop singer who emerged in the '60s in France with a voice that critics equated to Edith Piaf's. Next, Distel joins Dionne Warwick in 1964 on two bossa novas: A Man and ...

New Take On Music Crowdfunding from Cooking Vinyl's Pete Lawrence and Book Publisher Unbound
Source:
HypeBot
Pete Lawrence, founder of England's Cooking Vinyl record label and The Big Chill festival, is launching another more intimate festival called Alfresco. But instead of directly crowdfunding the festival, he's releasing a book full of stories about his past and offering tickets with pledges via Unbound, a book crowdsourcing and publishing service in London. For a variety of reasons it seems likely to be a success but, so far, only 5% of their goal has been reached. The first Alfresco ...
