Theodore Croker, 17, has been selected to be the 2002-03 Jazz Artist in Residence at the Ritz Theatre in Jacksonville, Florida. He was featured with his jazz trio for the opening jazz jam in November to highlight the Great American Jazz Celebration. Chamber Music America (CMA) announces the 2002 recipients of its New Works: Creation and Presentation program. The innovative grant-making program, now in its third year, supports composer/performer-led ensembles in the creation and presentation of compositions in the jazz idiom. Cuba charged that the U.S. government has not granted visas to 22 Cuban artists nominated for Latin Grammys, which will be broadcast from Los Angeles Wednesday evening. Vice Culture Minister Abel Acosta said the delegation had planned to travel to Los Angeles last Friday but as of Tuesday night still hadn't received word about visas, effectively preventing the group from attending the awards ceremony.
