New England Conservatory Reaps Grammy Nominations

Jazz Alumni, Faculty Cited in Vocal, Instrumental, Large Ensemble Categories

New England Conservatory musicians, particularly alumni and faculty in jazz performance, have been nominated in several categories for the 48th Annual Grammy Awards. The nominations included vocal, instrumental, large ensemble performances. There were also two nominations in classical music categories that honored NEC musicians.

Omar Sosa has received a GRAMMY nomination for his CD release Mulatos (OTA1014) in the Best Latin Jazz category from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS). Mulatos features Paquito D'Rivera (clarinet), Dieter Ilg (bass), Steve Arguelles (producer, drums), Renaud Pion (clarinets), and Philippe Foch (tabla).

David Chesky's Area 31 receives Grammy Nomination for Best Engineered Album, Classical

David Chesky's “Concertos For Violin And Orchestra", “Concertos For Flute And Orchestra", and “The Girl From Guatemala" have been nominated for Best Engineered Classical Recording for the 2005 GRAMMY Awards.

This orchestral recording was recorded by Chesky engineer Barry Wolifson of Sydney, Australia. As with all Chesky releases this session was recorded with one microphone, no overdubs, no compression, and the best audiophile microphone pre-amps and cables.
