London-based saxophonist/bandleader/composer Ingrid Laubrock has been awarded a Fellowship in Jazz Composition by Britain's prestigious independent arts funding body The Arts Foundation.

The Arts Foundation awards five Fellowships each year over five different art forms.

Each Fellowship is worth about $18,000.

Jazz has only once before been chosen as a receiving art form, in '93, when the Scottish saxophonist Tommy Smith was made a Fellow.

Laubrock plans to use her award to study, take a sabbatical, and compose.
