In 1926, Dr. Carter Woodson proposed celebrating Black History for a week in February, because Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass' birthdays were two days apart.
This month, the sounds of Sammy Miller and the Congregation - a 16-piece big band - will return to Ginny's Super Club for a night of marchin', swingin', but most importantly dancing in celebration of the man who issued the Emancipation Proclamation. The group's unique folk-infused repertoire will feature songs of The American Civil War, paired with inspirational speeches from the great Abraham Lincoln.
