Michael Kaeshammer isn’t so much a pianist as a piano whisperer, a master musician and songwriter able to coax dazzling, kaleidoscopic sounds from his instrument in a way few can rival. That gift powers Kaeshammer’s upcoming 15th album, Turn It Up, due out March 17.
The new single “Never Knew What Love Was,” which showcases Kaeshammer’s pure-pop style, was released last week at all streaming services and digital retailers (Listen Here). The song follows the release of the title track, which was released last month (Listen / Watch Video).
Born in Germany and residing in British Columbia, Kaeshammer has earned seven JUNO Award nominations, and has been called “Canada’s #1 pianist” by CBC. He has captivated audiences around the world, highlighted by nine tours of China, countless shows opposite international superstars, and three appearances at the Olympics to audiences in the millions. He is also an unabashed foodie and hosts the cooking show Kaeshammer’s Kitchen on Vancouver Island’s CHEK TV.
Turn It Up, the eclectic yet accessible jazz-based pop album, features eight original songs and a dynamic cover of Queen’s “Crazy Little Thing Called Love.” The album showcases Kaeshammer’s signature style, blending a range of keyboards, from a Wurlitzer organ to the Rhodes piano, with an ensemble of trumpet, trombone, saxophone, drums, and bass, all anchored by his sparkling voice and palpable positivity.
“I am a very positive person,” Kaeshammer confirms. “I really love playing shows and being on-stage. If Turn It Up helps me to do more of that, then I’m all in.”
