FRANK MORGAN, poll-winning alto saxophonist and Bird's protg, was a master interpreter of bebop and ballads. After recovering from a stroke in 1998, Frank played better than ever and received great reviews from critics and jazz presenters alike, adding a new chapter to a personal history of overcoming adversity.
After struggling with drug addiction and prison for three decades, Frank made a much-publicized comeback in 1985, and went on to record nearly twenty LP's and CD's as a leader before his death from colon cancer last Friday, Dec. 14.
