Flow Festival, organized as part of the Helsinki Festival in Helsinki's Suvilahti on 15-17 August, brings together a wide array of internationally acclaimed artists. In addition, the event now presents an area three times larger as that of previous year's. The number of stages also grows from three to four.
During its four years of existence Flow Festival, organized by the Nuspirit Helsinki collective, has successfully showcased top-notch music from jazz to soul, indie to electro, techno to boogie and electronic to organic. This year, the festival is proud to present artists such as Philadeplhia's The Roots, who have just released their tenth album to date, and Martha Reeves & The Vandellas from Detroit, which is considered as one of the most respected soul acts on the impressive Motown roster. Other acquisitions boasting big headlines worldwide include Brazil's indie greats CSS (Cansei de Ser Sexy), British postmodern soul renaissance man Jamie Lidell, Icelandic electronic folk-pop success story Mm, and award-winning Norwegian singer-songwriter Ane Brun.
The line up also includes France's secret weapon at the upcoming Eurovision song contest, Sbastien Tellier, Canada's Crystal Castles, viewed as the most interesting new act in the world today by forward-looking music media, Jos James, the New York based saviour of contemporary vocal jazz, and German-Chilean producer extraordinaire turned bandleader Senor Coconut. The Friday night at club Voimala includes a Berlin Techno special with an impressive cast of artists: M.A.N.D.Y., me, and Kiki are all well-respected figures in the innovative electronic music scene of Berlin with critically acclaimed productions for labels such as Sonar Kollektiv and Moodmusic under their belts. Berlin is at Flow on Sunday as well. The new trio of scene legend Moritz von Oswald will present their hypnotic live show featuring Finnish Berliner Sasu Ripatti aka Vladislav Delay on metal percussion. Saturday's club night features prominent New York City guests in the from of influential sound system Massive B and DJ Eli Escobar. The latter was recently voted as “Best International DJ" in Helsinki scene tastemaker Lifesaver's annual poll. Joining the bill is also ghetto house icon DJ Funk from Chicago. Detroit techno mastermind Robert Hood will headline Saturday night at the Voimala club stage with his rare live performance.
In addition to bringing noteworthy international acts to Helsinki, Flow Festival showcases the brightest and most interesting talent in the vivid Finnish urban music scene.
All in all Flow Festival presents 62 acts on 4 different stages during three days.
